Fun and simple DIY’s are my favorite!

Today, I’ll show you how I made my own fringed mirrors with just a few supplies. I ended up creating two mirrors — six and 12 inches in diameter — both in under an hour.

You can use any type, color or thickness of rope or string you would like! I personally used a three-ply cotton rope from the craft store, along with some very basic knots, to create my mirrors. Have fun and customize it to your liking!

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

FLORAL HOOP/CRAFT RING | COTTON ROPE/STRING | ROUND MIRROR | SCISSORS | HOT GLUE GUN | BRUSH/COMB

HOW TO

  1. Cut your rope or string into about 8-10 inch strands. You may want to cut only a few strands first to test your desired length.
  2. Use a Lark’s head knot to attach each strand around your hoop (photo 1).
  3. I wrapped the ends of each strand through the knot a second time to create a double knot (photo 2). As you add more strands around your hoop, push them tightly together so you can get the fullest look possible. These are the only knots I made for my smaller six-inch mirror!
  4. Once the hoop was completely full, I began tying each strand to the one next to it (photos 4-7). I don’t know how to do any fancy knots, so I just made these basics knots, which I think turned out really cute!
  5. Continue this process all the way around to create a fun border. I kept going and made a second row tying the same knot.
  6. When you finish the knotting pattern you decide to use, make one last knot to keep your design from unraveling.
  7. Brush out the strands to create the fringed look.
  8. Trim the ends to your desired length.
  9. Finally, hot glue the mirror onto the hoop. Make sure to use enough glue to secure the mirror to the back. My mirror has been hanging for a couple of months now and is still holding up perfectly!
  10. Hang your mirror on the wall or place on a shelf or cabinet for a fun and beautiful boho look! As always, make sure to tag me in your designs on instagram @ruffandrenew. I would love to see what you create!
