For 12 days, I will share a short DIY tutorial with you that can be fully customized to your style and hopefully even use materials you already have at home!
Today is day two of our 12 Days of Christmas crafts mini series.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
A METAL CRAFT HOOP | YARN | A CHRISTMAS PICK | FLORAL WIRE | BELLS | RIBBON | SCISSORS | HOT GLUE GUN | STEAMER
HOW TO
ADDING YARN TO THE HOOP
- Decide how long you want the yarn to hang from the hoop. The yarn on my finished product is 20 inches.
- For each piece of yarn, you will need to cut it at double the length you want. I cut each strand of yard at 44 inches. This gave me a couple of extra inches to be able to trim and even everything out at the end.
- Fold each piece of yarn in half and attach it to the hoop with a lark’s head knot.
- Repeat this process until the hanging yarn is as thick as you desire.
- You can add some extra texture by braiding sections of yarn.
- Once you finish attaching all of your yarn, use a steamer to straighten out all of the kinks.
- Bonus: use the steamer on the braids and allow it to dry completely. Take the braids out for a fun wavy texture!
- Trim your ends. Cut straight across, in a ‘v’ pattern or even curved to match the shape of the hoop.
ATTACHING THE DECORATIVE PIECES
- Use a Christmas pick to add some greenery! Trim the bottom stick part of the pick.
- Attach the greenery to the hoop using floral wire.
- Tie a ribbon into a bow, leaving the ends nice and long.
- Use scissors — or a curling iron for fabric ribbons — to curl the ends.
- Dab some hot glue on the back of the ribbon and attach to the end of Christmas pick. This will cover up where the pick was cut.
- Tie in some bells in random spots for the ultimate holiday flair!
