Poshmark is my favorite place to sell secondhand finds!

The app is super user friendly and perfect for anyone who wants to start reselling part-time or just wants to clean out their closet to make some extra cash. I’ve been on the platform for several years now and thought it would be helpful to answer some of the most asked questions I’ve come across.

If you are wanting to learn more about how to start selling on Poshmark, check out my post all about it here.

1. “I’m going on vacation, how can I make sure no one purchases my listing?”

If you’re going on vacation or just need to take a break from selling, Poshmark has a feature to mark all of your listings as ‘not for sale’ at once! During this time, people may still contact you, but none of your listings will be available for offers or purchasing.

In the app: Account > My Seller Tools > Vacation Hold

2. “How do I offer a discount for shoppers who order multiple items?”

Bundling is one of Poshmark’s best features! This allows a buyer to order multiple items from your closet and pay one shipping fee. In order to entice buyers to do just that, you can set a bundle discount for your account. The discount will show up on your profile and will automatically be offered to anyone that creates a bundle meeting your minimum item limit.

In the app: Account > My Seller Tools > My Seller Discounts

3. “How do I add a ‘meet the posher’ and other fun signs sellers have in their closets?”

If you want to add an about me, sale alert or other notifications to your closet, all you need to do is add a new listing. Add a photo or graphic to a new listing, fill out the required fields and list.

4. “How do I become a Poshmark Ambassador?”

To become a Poshmark Ambassador, you will need to hit several achievements, including 15 sales, a 4.5 star rating or higher, 50 available listings and more. To read more about this program, check out this article on becoming a Poshmark Ambassador.

In the app: Account > My Posh Stats > Posh Ambassador Status

5. “I’m getting too many notifications, how do I stop them?”

Poshmark sends out so many unnecessary notifications, but don’t worry, you can turn almost all of them off! Notifications are broken up by push (sent to your phone) and email. Toggle each one on or off depending on what you need. You will still be notified when a buyer makes an offer, an item is purchased and when you’re rated.

In the app: Account > Notifications

6. “Someone purchased an item from my closet and is now reselling it with my photos and description, how is this?”

Poshmark encourages buyers to “reposh” items that they have previously purchased on the platform. In order to reposh an item, the person would go to their purchases page, select the item, then hit the reposh button at the top. This loads all of your photos, title, description and everything else into a new listing for them. It will include your closet name on every single photo and add a note that they are reposhing this item they bought from you. They are not required to add any updated photos or update the description in any way.

While this all seems harmless enough, I would suggest turning this feature off. Once an item you sold is in another person’s hands, you have no control over what condition it is in or what happens to it, so that buyer should be adding their own information and leaving your name off of the listing.

In the app: Account > My Seller Tools > Reposh Settings

Listing + Sharing

7. “Is there any way to share my entire closet at once instead of individually?”

Poshmark recently rolled out a bulk sharing tool, which is such a time saver!

In the app: Account > My Closet > Click on the tool icon in top right corner > Share To Followers > Select All > Scroll down to load all listings > Share to Followers

8. “Someone left a rude or spam comment on my listing, how do I get rid of it?”

Every now and then you may receive comments on your listings that are rude, weird or spam, like asking you to do a transaction off the app, promoting another person’s closet or asking other unrelated questions.

While Poshmark still doesn’t allow you to delete comments on your listings, all you need to do is click on the little flag under the comment and mark it as spam. The comment will immediately be removed.

9. “My listing has not sold or had any interest lately and it’s been a few months, what should I do?”

Listings older than 60 days can be re-listed using the copy feature. This will bump your listing to the top of the just in section. To find out what listings are older than 60 days, download your inventory report! This is also the perfect time to update the title, description and photos if needed.

In the app: Account > My Seller Tools > My Inventory Report (this will be emailed) > Go to the listing that is older than 60 days and click edit > Click ‘Copy Listing’ at the bottom > A new listing has been created, delete ‘Copy’ from the title and make any other changes > List > Delete the old listing

10. “Is it important to share my listings to posh shows?”

By sharing your listings to posh shows, you are limiting the views your items could be getting to a much smaller audience. Poshmark allows up to 10,000 shares per day and while that sounds like a lot, you should be sharing your own listings as many times as you can to your followers. Doing this will also bump your listings to the top of the ‘Just Shared’ search option which is the default search for most shoppers. So skip the posh shows and just share the normal way!

Making Sales

11. “A buyer asked me to bundle their liked items together, how do I do that?”

A buyer likes multiple items from your closet and now wants to bundle them into one order to save on shipping!

In the app: Go to the buyer’s profile page > Click on their photo with the shopping bag in the top right corner > Click the three dots in the top right corner > Switch to Sell View > At the bottom of the page you’ll see all of their likes > Click on the shopping bag/plus icon to add the item to their bundle

12. “A buyer wants to add an item to their bundle but they haven’t liked it yet.”

If a buyer reaches out to you and asks if you can add another item to their bundle, but they haven’t liked the listing yet, you can easily add it for them!

In the app: Go to the listing of the item they are interested in > Click share > Search the buyer’s name and hit share > The item will be added to their bundle

13. “How do I send offers to shoppers who have liked my items?”

Sellers can send an offer to anyone who has liked their listing. In order for the offer to be sent, it must be at least 10% below the listing price. After this initial offer, the next offer must drop by 10% each time it is sent to the same liker in a 60 day period. You must also choose a shipping discount. Offers sent are binding and are only good for 24 hours.

In the app: Go to the listing > Click ‘Offer/Price Drop’ at the bottom > Offer to Likers (private) > Choose an offer and discounted shipping option > Click Submit

14. “How I do send offers on my entire closet?”

A quick way to send offers on multiple items in your closet at once is by using the bulk offer tool.

In the app: Account > My Closet > Click the tool icon in the top right corner > Make Offer to Likers > Choose an offer > Select the items in your closet you want to send that offer on > Submit

15. How do I send an offer to a buyer without offering a shipping discount?

If you want to send an offer but don’t want to include discounted shipping, you can add the listing to the liker’s bundle first, then send an offer from there.

In the app: Go to the buyer’s profile page > Click on their photo with the shopping bag in the top right corner > Click the three dots in the top right corner > Switch to Sell View > At the bottom of the page you’ll see all of their likes > Click on the shopping bag/plus icon to add the item to their bundle > From this page you can send an offer without a shipping discount

16. “How can I see all of the active offers I’ve sent out?”

You can see all of the active offers you’ve sent out or that have been sent to you all in one place!

In the app: Account > My Offers > You will see all active offers from the last 24 hours

17. “I sent an offer to a buyer but changed my mind, how do I cancel it?”

Poshmark doesn’t allow sellers to cancel offers once they’re sent, but there may come a time when you need to. To get around this, edit the listing, change the size and list. Any active offers will automatically be canceled. Now, you can either delete the listing or go back and update the listing to the correct size.

18. “Can I drop the price of everything in my closet at once?”

Yes! You can now raise or drop the price of multiple items in your closet at once!

In the app: Account > My Closet > Click the tool icon in the top right corner > Edit Listing Price > Choose to raise or drop the price and a percentage > Next > Select all or choose items individually

19. “What is Closet Clear Out and how do I participate?”

Closet Clear Out is a sale promotion that runs a few times a week. It typically takes place on Fridays and Sundays, though you will be notified via a banner on the news page when it’s happening.

If a seller drops the price of an item in their closet by 10%, Poshmark will send an offer with $4.99 shipping to anyone who has previously liked the item. And the best part? The discounted shipping is covered by Poshmark! Two things you’ll want to keep in mind though, offers during this promotion are only good for six hours and the price cannot be dropped lower than $10 or the offer will not be sent.

20. “How can I communicate with a buyer?”

Before a sale, you can communicate with a buyer through either the comments on the listing or by commenting on a bundle. To comment on a bundle, you would go to their profile page, click on the photo with the shopping bag at the top right, click on the three dots on the top right, click ‘switch to sell view’ and comment here!

Once a purchase is made, you can chat with the buyer by messaging them on the sales page.

In the app: Account > My Sales > Choose the sale > At the bottom click message buyer

21. I sent an offer to a buyer with a shipping discount. They countered and I accepted. Now they are messaging me that they didn’t receive the discounted shipping, what happened?”

When you send a potential buyer an offer, the shipping discount is only good for that initial offer. If they choose to counter or decline then send an offer at a later date, the shipping discount is taken off the table.

Shipping + Cancellations + Other Issues

22. “How long does a buyer have to cancel their order and when is it safe to ship out?”

When a buyer purchases an item through the ‘Buy Now’ button, they have three hours to cancel their purchase. After that period, it is safe to ship out the item and mark it as shipped in the app. If you try to mark it as shipped before that time, a notification will pop up reminding you they have three hours to cancel.

However, when someone purchases an item through the make an offer feature, whether it be an offer they sent OR you sent, there are no cancellations. The buyer is notified that the item cannot be cancelled before purchasing. You can ship these orders out right away.

23. “The cancellation window has passed, but the buyer still wants me to cancel, what do I do?”

Poshmark allows buyers to cancel up to three hours after a ‘Buy Now’ (full priced) purchase. If the buyer purchases an item through an offer they made or one you sent to them, that sale is binding. They are notified several times through the checkout process that their purchase cannot be canceled.

When a buyer asks you to cancel after they are no longer able to, you can either cancel the order for them or still ship it out. As a seller, you do not have to cancel the order. They missed their window to cancel and you can let them know that the order will be shipped per Poshmark’s Terms of Service. However, if you want to avoid any potential problems with the buyer, like them damaging the item to get a return approved, just cancel the order.

In the app: Account > My Sales > Choose the order > Problems/Order Inquiry > Cancel Order > Other, then state that the buyer requested a cancellation

24. I’m packing up an order but I can’t find it, how do I cancel the order?

You’ve looked everywhere and cannot find the item that just sold. Now you think you may have sold it on another platform or dropped it off for donation. You should reach out to the buyer to let them know, then cancel the order.

In the app: Account > My Sales > Choose the order > Problems/Order Inquiry > Don’t have the item

25. “I’m packing an order and I just noticed there is a stain or other damage, what should I do?”

Before cancelling the item, reach out to the buyer and let them know what is going on. You could also create a copy of the listing, add a photo of the damage and tag them in the comments so they can see exactly what is wrong. I have actually still had buyers want to go through with the sale after seeing the damage. So, just make sure to communicate with your buyer!

Another option to still make a sale would be to offer to cancel the order and have them repurchase it at a lower price. Otherwise, if you don’t hear anything from the buyer or they decide they don’t want the item, you can just cancel the order altogether.

To cancel the order: Account > My Sales > Choose the order > Problems/Order Inquiry > Item got damaged
To message the buyer: Account > My Sales > Choose the order > Message Buyer
To re-list the canceled order: Cancel order first > Problems/Order Inquiry > Mark Listing for Sale

26. “The order I’m packing is more than 5 lbs, what do I do?”

Packages over 5 lbs will require you to upgrade the shipping label before dropping it off at the post office. This additional shipping fee will automatically be taken out of your earnings.

In the app: Account > My Sales > Choose the order > Need New Shipping Label > Need Heavier Weight Label > Select new weight (keep in mind these are for up to that weight, for example a 7 lb 6 oz package should get an 8.0 lb label)

27. “I shipped an order yesterday and it is still not tracking, what should I do?”

Don’t worry just yet! USPS deals with an extremely high volume of mail, so packages are not always scanned at every stop on their journey. Sometimes a package’s tracking won’t update for days, but it is still moving through the shipping process! To be safe, you can let posh know that you shipped the order, but it is still not tracking.

In the app: Account > My Sales > Choose the order > Problems/Order Inquiry > Shipped, but Not Tracking

28. “The tracking on an order I shipped states the package is waiting for pickup at the post office. It’s been days now and the tracking still says the same thing, what do I do?”

If a package cannot be delivered to the buyer’s address for some reason, USPS will leave a note telling them to pick up the package at the post office. Since the order has not been marked delivered by USPS, you will be waiting on your payout until the buyer decides to pick it up, which could be weeks.

Once a package has been sitting at the post office for a few days based on its tracking history, contact Poshmark and let them know. They will reach out to the buyer to remind them to pick up their order and also start the three day return window. Now, even if the buyer does not retrieve their package right away, your earnings will still be paid out.

29. What kind of packaging can I use?

Poshmark is the best when it comes to shipping! While you can purchase plain boxes and mailers, you are also able to re-use packaging from places like Amazon and Target — just make sure all of the old labels are removed. Additionally, you can use any of the free USPS Priority Mail, Priority Flat Rate and Priority Regional Rate mailers.

30. “How do I get 4×6″ labels to print out?”

A quick change in your settings will have you printing 4×6″ labels in no time! While you’re there, you can also turn on the option to have a packing slip print out with each shipping label. Use SKUs? Have those added to the packing slip as well!

In the app: Account > My Seller Tools > Shipping Label Settings > Paper Size Settings > 4″x6″

Reviews + Return Requests

31. “Can I remove a love note?”

Yes! Sometimes people leave weird comments, but they can easily be removed.

In the app: Account > My Sales > Click on the sale you want to remove the love note from > Problems/Order Inquiry > Remove Love Note

32. “I got a bad review, will this affect my account or sales?”

Poshmark only shows reviews where a buyer rated you 5-stars AND left a comment. You can see these on your public profile page. While bad reviews will not hurt your account, you will need to have an average rating of 4.5 stars or higher to become a Posh Ambassador.

33. “I had a case opened against me, what do I do?”

Don’t stress, it happens!

After a buyer receives their order they have 3 days to let Poshmark know there is something wrong. They will be asked to detail what the problem is and to provided photos. Once they do this, you will be added to a chat with Poshmark, the buyer and the information they provided for the return. Remember to respond professionally!

If the reason for the return is your fault, maybe you shipped the wrong item or listed it incorrectly, you can apologize and let posh know you are okay with the return. Posh will take care of the return from there.

If the buyer is stating they changed their mind or the item doesn’t fit, these are not valid reasons for a return. You can just respond reminding them of Poshmark’s Terms of Service.

Unfortunately, you may run into a situation where the buyer wants to get around the return policy and decides to damage the item. In any case where the buyer is being dishonest, do not argue back and forth with them. Add any information you need to along with photos from the listing or packing process that could help. Additionally, you can ask the buyer to provide more photos on their end if necessary. Poshmark usually takes a few days to make a decision.

34. “The 3-day return window has passed and the buyer is now asking me to accept a return or give a refund, what do I do?”

Let the buyer know that unfortunately the return window has passed and they would have had to reach out to Poshmark within 3 days of receiving their order to request a return. Poshmark does not do partial refunds. If the buyer continues to contact you or is verbally abusive, block them and contact Poshmark support if needed.
