On one of my recent thrifting trips, I scored these four huge picture frames for only $0.99 each! The store was having a sale on all of their oversized frames, so I grabbed a few and wanted to see how I could spruce them up!
This is a really simple DIY, that you can do in an afternoon with supplies you may already have!
Before diving in to the fun part, I removed the glass, picture and paper that was taped and glued onto the back, leaving just the frame itself.
Since these were old frames, I spent a little bit of time getting all of the dust and grime out from the detailing. I finished up with a light sanding.
After a little brainstorming, I decided to paint each frame in two different colors for a two-tone look.
For the two largest frames, I wanted to keep them simple but modern, so I left half of the frame gold and painted the other halves white and black.

I taped the frames off so the color was even on each side.
I used both regular paint and sponges brushes, and found the sponge brushes worked better at getting into all of the nooks and crannies of the frame.
Overall, I did about two or three coats of paint, depending on the color and it’s coverage.
After painting both of these frames, I didn’t love the original gold color. It was a little too dull for me, so I ran out to the store and picked up a metallic gold paint.
The metallic color came out really well and gave it that extra shine that it was missing!
With my other two frames, I wanted to do something a little bit softer. I used a baby blue and blush pink chalk paint for the statement color and white to balance it out.

I made sure to seal all of my frames using a clear wax and let them dry for about a day before handling.
I love how all of these frames turned out and how different the styles are! The gold ones would look great in an office, hallway or library, while the softer ones would look adorable in a baby or kids room!
