How to make your very own DIY no-sew Christmas tree skirt

The last project in this mini series is my favorite!

It’s another no-sew DIY, allowing you to create a beautiful tree skirt in just under an hour without sewing a thing. So, find a cute Christmas tablecloth or fabric and start crafting!

SUPPLIES

FABRIC | SCISSORS | WHITE PENCIL/CHALK | STRING | IRON-ON FUSING WEB | IRON | RIBBON | PINS

1. Depending on the height of your tree, you will want to make a tree skirt with a diameter of anywhere from 48” up to 56” or more. Generally, your tree skirt should be a few inches wider than the bottom or fullest row of branches.
   
   Once you know the diameter you’d like the finished tree skirt to be, cut a square out of your fabric that is that measurement plus an inch on each side. For example, I wanted to make my tree skirt 48” in diameter so I cut a square that was 50×50”. This gave me enough room to hem the edges later on. Don’t forget to iron out any wrinkles first!
   
   
2. Next, take the square of fabric and fold it in half. Fold it in half a second time. You should now have a smaller square with four layers of fabric.
   
   
3. Fold the fabric in half once more, this time diagonally into a triangle.
   
   
4. Using a string with a pencil or chalk tied at one end, hold the other end at the folded corner with no raw ends. Move the chalk from one corner to the other side to create the curve or rounded edge of the tree skirt.

5. Cut the fabric at the curve you just made. You should now have a folded stack of fabric in a pizza shape.
   
   
6. Before you unfold the fabric, cut about 1” from the tip, following the same curve shape at the other end.

7. Unfold the fabric to show a circular tree skirt with an open circle in the middle.
   
   
8. Next, cut a straight line from the outer edge to the inner circle on just one side. This will create the opening so you can wrap the skirt around your tree.
   
   
9. Fold all of the raw edges over, press with an iron and pin. This will make it easier to add the fusing web in the next step.

10. Now, take your iron-on fusing web and place it between the fold in the fabric. Press with an iron. Flip the fabric over and iron the edges again to ensure a strong bond.
    
    
11. Now we’ll create the ties for skirt! Cut six strips of ribbon about 12” long.
    
    
12. Attach the ribbon to the underside of the skirt with the fusing web. Make sure the ribbon you are using will not melt under the iron.
    
    
13. Fold the ends of the ribbon in half and cut at a diagonal to create a nice finished end. 

While there is a bit of ironing, I was still able to make this entire tree skirt in just under an hour! I loved being able to reuse a tablecloth in such a fun new way and can’t wait to decorate with it every year!
