For Halloween, I wanted to create some spooky but cute themed confetti to spice up photos for this season’s projects.

I was even more excited by this idea because I haven’t done many projects with my Circuit. I always forget it can do so much more than just cut out vinyl letters, so I’m adding a bunch of easy DIYs to my list for the upcoming holidays!

Making my own confetti was so much easier than I thought it would be and I loved that I could completely customize each detail. Obviously, creating your own will take a little bit longer than just running to the store and buying it, but by using your Cricut you get complete creative control!

So, the next time you need a fun and unique addition to your holiday or party decor, try making your very own confetti at home! Details like foil, iridescent, glitter or translucent paper, in addition to colorful card stock, will really make your confetti pop. Adding in simple shapes and different sized cuts will also add some dimension to the fun mix you’re creating!

SCRAPBOOK PAPER/CARD STOCK | CRICUT | CRICUT TOOLS | CUTTING MAT

How To

Step 1 | Using your design software of choice, create a repeating pattern sized to 8.5x11in for letter paper or 12x12in for a standard scrapbook page. Adjust measurements as needed.

I use Canva to create my designs and then upload them to Cricut’s Design Space, but you can use whatever design program you like best!

Step 2 | When you are done making your pattern, download the design to your computer as a .png and make sure to check the box for a transparent background. If you are not able to do this, you can still remove the background later on, but it may require more work.

Step 3 | Open Cricut’s Design Space and click on the ‘Canvas’ or ‘My Projects’ tab.

Step 4 | From there, click on the ‘Upload’ tab, click ‘Upload Image’ and select the .png file you just created.

Step 5 | Select the image type — I use ‘Simple’ — click continue and you are now on the background remover page. This is where you can remove any background you do not want to include in your pattern. Click on ‘Preview Cut Image’ to see exactly where the cuts will be made.

Step 6 | Choose ‘Cut Image’ as your upload type and hit the ‘Upload’ button at the bottom.

Step 7 | You should now be back on the main upload page. Select the design you just uploaded and hit ‘Add To Canvas.’

Step 8 | With your design now on the canvas, you will probably need to resize it again. If you size it to 12x12in, you may get an error message if your machine is not compatible with that size. If that happens, just resize the design to 11.5×11.5in.

Now hit ‘Make It.’ You do not need to do anything else to the design besides uploading it to the canvas and resizing.

Step 9 | Make one final check on this page that your design is what you want, then hit ‘Continue.’ Turn on your maker and follow the prompts.

Step 10 | Remove all of the cuts from your mat and store in a small container or bag so you don’t lose all of the little pieces.

Decorate with your newly made, customized confetti!
