Let’s kick off this week with a new Halloween DIY!

Garlands are some of my favorite decor pieces to make for each season — they’re so quick and easy to put together. I also love that you can make them as big and extravagant as you want!

For today’s DIY garland, I’m keeping it pretty simple by using some mini Dollar Tree skulls, wood beads and a few small scrap pieces of fabric. So, let’s get right to it!

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

MINI SKULLS | WOOD BEADS | PAINT | WOOD SKEWERS | YARN | COTTON CORD | FABRIC | NEEDLE | DRILL + BIT | PAINTBRUSH

HOW TO MAKE YOUR GARLAND

  1. Grab a pack or two of mini skulls from the Dollar Tree. If you can’t find any, try the craft stores! You may even be able to find the rest of your supplies, such as wood beads, paint, skewers, string/yarn and a small square of fabric, at your Dollar Tree, too.

Besides the skulls, I had everything else on-hand, so don’t forget to check your craft closet before shopping!

  2. Using caution, make holes on each side the skull so you can easily string them together later on. I used a drill bit roughly the thickness of my yarn and carefully drilled a hole where the ears would be. If you don’t feel comfortable making a hole with any type of tool, you could also just glue the skulls onto the yarn.

  3. Now we can start painting! Place each skull on a wood skewer — this will help you easily paint and dry everything at once — then rest the skewers over an open basket or container. Repeat this process with your wood beads.

If you don’t want to use skewers, just paint one side at a time and allow it to fully dry before flipping over.

  4. Start stringing your beads and skulls onto your yarn. Using a needle for the yarn will help the process go so much faster!

  5. Lastly, I wanted to add some fun tassels to the ends. I cut some scrap fabric I had into skinny strips and mixed it in with the cotton cord I used to create the tassel. Tie these to the ends of the yarn and you’re all done.

Now you can decorate your home for Halloween with your new skull garland!
