Don’t you just love crafts that you can be super creative and playful with?

While I was shopping for my other Valentine’s Day DIY projects a couple of weeks ago, I knew I would have some supplies leftover. I figured, what better way to use those remnants than by making some cute pink mixed media letters?

I grabbed these paper mache block letters and got to it! It was so refreshing to just create what I felt in the moment and have fun with it, rather than feel like I had to follow any specific rules.

Below, I’ll share how I made my Valentine’s letters so you can use it as inspiration to create your very own!

HOW I CREATED MY LETTERS

I started with plain paper mache letters from the craft store, which were about $3 each before any discounts. You could also use wooden letters, but you’ll want to make sure they can stand on their own.

The other supplies I used included scrapbook paper, a roll of glittered paper, paint and yarn. I wanted the letters to be fun and a little bit crazy, so I made sure to use a variety of textures, but kept everything in the same general color family.

I painted everything first, making sure to get each side so that I wouldn’t see any of the brown paper peeking through the yarn.

Once the paint dried, I traced sections of the letters onto the scrapbook and glittered paper. I then cut each piece out and hot glued it onto the paper mache.

The last step for my DIY was to add the yarn! I wrapped different pieces of yarn all over, using some of the strands to cover the edges of the paper.

This was an easy craft that allowed me to be creative and use up my scraps. I absolutely love that you can make this DIY decor for any holiday or season, too! Share your DIY Valentine’s Day letters with me over on instagram @ruffandrenew. Can’t wait to see you there!
